Who's running for Team Bones?

Lee Jeys

I am running my first marathon, raising money for BCRT. I am a Consultant Surgeon working for patients with bone tumours and realise what great work BCRT does raising money to help me and others do more research into the treatment of bone tumours. Plus I am 40 years old this year and need help with my 'middle aged spread'!!!

Judith Epton & Beck Varley

Tragically we lost a bright star from our year group at John Ferneley College in Melton, in November 2010. She fought bravely against cancer for a number of years, without ever loosing her passion and sense of humour. This charity was close to her heart and we would love to give something back.

Stephen Nicholls

In 2012 I will be running in memory of Rose Allocca who sadly lost her brave battle with cancer in December 2010. She was almost 9 years old, but throughout her short life brought endless fun and laughter to everyone around her. BCRT provided amazing support to Rose and her family throughout her illness and I want to take this opportunity to raise much-needed funds for this amazing cause in Rose's memory.

Louisa Strain

I am running the marathon for BCRT in memory of my lovely brother-in-law Alex who died, in February 2011, after a 4 year battle with osteosarcoma just 5 days after he married my little sister. You may have seen the amazing documentary on the BBC recently: "Alex- a Life Fast Forward". Alex continues to inspire us all and I am proud to be running for BCRT: www.justgiving.com/Louisa-Strain1

Tom Whitcombe

I have chosen to run for BCRT because my housemate (Henry O'Lone) was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 2007. Osteosarcoma is a very rare type of bone cancer with only 200 cases being diagnosed every year. Consequently funding and research is quite limited. I'm aiming to raise at least £2,000 for BCRT by running the 2012 Virgin London Marathon.

Tom Sheffle

I am running for the BCRT as in 2010 I was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma of my 10th left rib. After approximately 14 months from diagnosis to being told I was in remission, having had very successful treatment (chemotherapy/surgery). I realised that not all people have been/will be as fortunate as me and that if I was able to do anything to increase peoples chances (i.e. raising money for such a relevant and worthwhile charity) then I promised myself that I would have no hesitation.

John O'Sullivan

I'm really pleased to have the opportunity to run my first full marathon to raise money for BCRT in memory of my niece, Claudia Burnand.
Claudia died aged just 15 in June 2006 from Ewing's Sarcoma. Claudia was a beautiful, gifted girl whose spirit never wavered in her fight against this dreadful disease and I hope that by raising money for BCRT I can contribute towards better survival rates in future.

Chris Burke

I am running the London Marathon following my Daughter's, Francesca, successful treatment for osteosarcoma. Francesca developed this cancer when she was 8 and received major surgery and chemotherapy for nearly a year. Four years on we are delighted to say she is doing well. Unfortunately not all outcomes are as positive as ours, so any money I can raise to improve prospects for future sufferers will truly be money well raised.

Mike Fletcher

As middle age is creeping up on me and the inevitable onset of a mid life crisis, my options were to buy a motorbike and get a tattoo, or to run 26.3 miles, the latter seemed like the safer option. It also gives me a chance to raise money for a great cause. The London marathon is something that I have wanted to do now for years and I feel very privileged to be running as part of the BCRT team.

Chris Price

I am running the 2012 London Marathon in memory of Adam Dealey who had Ewing's sarcoma and sadly lost his fight in 1994 aged 10.

Sarah Finn

My cousin sadly died last year after suffering with bone cancer, she was only 8. I am running for BCRT to help raise money for a great charity and hope that in the future this will help other people to not have to go through the things that she did. Running this marathon does not even compare to the things that Rose achieved in her battle against this horrible disease which I will remember every time my body is telling me to give up. www.justgiving.com/SarahFinn-LondonMarathon

Andrew McLennaghan

I am running for the Bone Cancer Research Trust in memory of Alexander Albistan who tragically died of bone cancer at just 19 years old. Alexander was the son of Tim Albistan one of my best friends at university. The way Alexander fought the illness and continued his studies, actually gaining entry to Cambridge University, was such that he actually made the national papers. Alexander lost his fight but his courage and the courage and dignity of his family has been an inspiration. I would like to raise as much as I can to help Research into this terrible illness.

Karl Burton

Having only met Callum (Flynn) over the last year, I have been inspired by his personal battle and amazing fighting spirit, not to mention his desire to help others in similar circumstances. As a keen runner, the Marathon is also a great chance to challenge my mind and body whilst raising much needed funds.

Freddie Chambers

Freddie is running for BCRT to help raise money for further Bone Cancer research and support for those who it affects; mostly children and young people. He is also running to raise awareness of this Cancer which affected one of his friends and until then he had never heard of before.

Update: Unfortunately due to injury Freddie is unable to take part in this year's London Marathon. He is still fundraising for BCRT by taking part in a 180 mile cycle ride on the weekend of the London Marathon. Enda Dineen

A young girl named Blathnaid who was in my daughters class in school died from Ewing's sarcoma at the age of 13, This child was a bubbly, happy, pleasant, innocent child that had so much to give and so much to look forward to but was taken from this life way too soon. To quote Blathnaid's mother she was an amazing unique little individual, so the reason I am running for BCRT is to raise awareness of this disease along with much needed funds but above all to keep the memory of Blathnaid alive.

Seamus Rooney

Manchester Utd fan, my son Colm felt pain in his left groin thinking it was related to playing football for the Under-17s. In March 2010, while taking painkillers and noticing swelling, Colm had a CT scan. The diagnosis was the cancer, Ewing's Sarcoma in his pelvis & it had already spread to his lungs. Sixteen months later in July 2011, 19 year Colm lost his battle to the disease. I'm now looking run the London Marathon in Colm's memory.

David Addison

On the 22nd of April 2012, I am running the Virgin London Marathon for Team Bones. I have lost family members and friends to cancer. So when I heard the moving story of Adam Dealey's lost battle with Ewing's sarcoma and the work being done by the Bone Cancer Research Trust, I knew it was a cause worth running for.

Jenny Steer

I am running for BCRT to show my support for my boyfriend's brother Tom. Tom was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in 2008 and, after two and a half years in remission, was told that his cancer had returned in October this year. If putting myself through a few months of pain can help improve the treatment and prognosis for other young people like Tom, it will be well worth doing.

Emily Freeman

I am running for BCRT for two reasons. My brother, Daniel, lost his life to cancer at the age of 13. Had the cancer been diagnosed earlier, things may have been very different. More than 20 years on and our dear friend Ali, lost her husband of 5 days (Alex Lewis) to the same cancer, at the age of 22. My hope is that by bringing this to people's attention, I will be helping in some small way to ensure that less young lives are lost to cancer in the future. Plus the BCRT team were an AMAZING support during the Royal Parks Half Marathon last year, and I will need plenty of cheering from the sidelines :)

Sarah Styles

I'm running the marathon for my mum who was diagnosed with bone cancer last october after beating breast cancer 4 years ago. She is such a brave and strong person. I am very proud to be her daughter. She has made me who I am and has inspired me to give something back.

Georgia Bourne

My name is Georgia and I am SO excited to be running the London marathon for BCRT. This event is massive and I can't wait to help raise the profile of such an amazing charity that has supported a pair of gorgeous friends of mine. I hope to raise stacks of cash so that it can continue to do so. Bring on the challenge!

Karen Wood

My child's form-teacher's son had Ewing's sarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Tragically, he passed away last summer at only 5 years old. Having learned of this innocent young child's life ending so prematurely, I felt an overwhelming desire to do something positive to help improve outcomes for those with bone cancer. With only a short time to go, training for the 26.2 miles isn't going to be easy but it will all be worthwhile for such a deserving charity.
